BERMUDA · BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS THE DIASPORA

BUILDING
PARTNERSHIPS
THAT MATTER

We connect Black and Indigenous diaspora communities with the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to thrive, across Bermuda and beyond.

DIASPORIC

BELONGING WITHOUT BORDERS

OUR PROMISE

BRIDGE.
BUILD.
BLOOM.

We turn diaspora potential into lasting impact through connection, collaboration, and cultural strength.

01 · BRIDGE

Connecting communities to homelands and host countries.

02 · BUILD

Co-creating with local leaders, never imposing from outside.

03 · BLOOM

Turning remittances into resilience. Pride into economic power.

THE CHALLENGE

WHY WE EXIST

Over 280 million people live outside their birth country. For Black and Indigenous communities, this displacement carries the weight of colonialism, forced migration, and ongoing inequity.

Too often, diaspora potential goes untapped, communities left disconnected from the resources they deserve. DIASPORIC exists to change that. Not through charity, but through partnership.

OUR FOCUS AREAS

WHAT WE DO

PILLAR 01

ECONOMIC
EMPOWERMENT

Turn remittances into investments. Match diaspora funding with local entrepreneurs building generational wealth.

POLICY PARTNERSHIPS

HOW WE WORK

WE DO THE
LEG WORK

For those who want to invest, partner, or launch projects across Africa and the diaspora, the hardest part is knowing who to trust. We solve that before you commit a single dollar or hour.

DIASPORIC conducts on-the-ground due diligence so that every organisation, community group, or government body we recommend has been independently verified. We investigate track records, speak to local stakeholders, assess governance structures, and cross-reference across our network before any introduction is made.

The result: when we bring you to a partner, or bring a partner to you, both sides can move forward with confidence. No surprises. No wasted capital. No reputational risk.

STEP 01

INTAKE &
SCOPING

We listen to what you want to build, fund, or achieve, and map it against the landscape of real opportunities on the ground.

STEP 02

ON-GROUND
INVESTIGATION

Our team and trusted local contacts verify organisations directly, meeting leaders, reviewing financials, consulting communities they serve.

STEP 03

VETTING &
VALIDATION

We cross-reference governance records, legal standing, and community reputation before any partner is cleared through our network.

STEP 04

TRUSTED
INTRODUCTION

Only then do we make the connection, with full context, a written brief, and ongoing support through the relationship.

THE PEOPLE
BEHIND DIASPORIC

Edmond Johnson

EDMOND JOHNSON

FOUNDER & OWNER, UMIN DESIGN

HEAD MASTER, CHAMPION TAEKWONDO ACADEMY

BRIDGING TECHNOLOGY, COMMUNITY, AND THE DIASPORA

Edmond Johnson is a Bermudian technology entrepreneur, martial arts leader, and passionate connector of people.

With over 30 years of experience in the digital sector, he is the Founder and Owner of UMIN Design, a Bermuda-based development and technology company dedicated to delivering innovative, high-impact solutions. Yet his influence extends far beyond the island's shores. Edmond is driven by a deep and genuine willingness to connect people and businesses throughout the diaspora, believing that shared knowledge and cross-border collaboration are the keys to collective growth.

AWARD-WINNING TECH INNOVATOR

Edmond's visionary approach to technology earned him recognition as a 2021 EDD Leadership Innovation Award recipient from Bermuda's Economic Development Department. He received this honor for his pivotal work as the Creator of "Test Guard," an online registration system for antigen tests that gave rapid testing the credibility, traceability, and security of a formal digital platform during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout his three-decade career, Edmond has consistently applied his problem-solving mindset to bridge gaps between legacy systems and modern infrastructure, between local needs and global standards, and between isolated communities and wider opportunities.

A GLOBAL CONNECTOR WITH A DIASPORIC VISION

At the heart of Edmond's professional philosophy is a profound commitment to the diaspora. He understands that Bermuda, though small in size, is part of a vast global network of talent, culture, and commerce. Through UMIN Design, Edmond actively seeks to connect Bermudian businesses with international partners, fostering partnerships that create opportunities across the Caribbean, North America, and beyond.

Whether he is mentoring a young entrepreneur, advising a startup, or brokering cross-border tech collaborations, Edmond approaches every interaction with the same goal: to strengthen the ties that bind the global Bermudian and Caribbean community.

DEVELOPING CHAMPIONS ON AND OFF THE MAT

Parallel to his tech career, Edmond is a revered martial arts leader. He serves as Head Master of Champion Taekwondo Academy, the only Taekwondo dojang in Bermuda. Holding the rank of 6th Dan black belt, he has built the academy into a thriving community of over 120 active members, where he instills discipline, confidence, respect, and resilience in students of all ages.

His commitment to youth development is visible in everything he does. Edmond hosts the annual "Tiger Clash" tournament, which has grown into a premier sporting event on Bermuda's calendar, drawing 85 athletes and 260 spectators in 2026 alone.

A LEGACY OF PURPOSE

Edmond Johnson represents the very best of Bermuda's entrepreneurial and community spirit. Whether he is coding the next breakthrough application, teaching a taekwondo class, or bridging the gap between a local business and a global market, his work is always guided by a simple, powerful mission: to build with integrity, lead with heart, and connect people across every border.

"Technology builds systems. Martial arts builds character. Together, they build futures and they connect us all."

RISE

Reimagining Innovation, Scaling Enterprise

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

INNOVATION
KNOWS NO
BORDERS

Reimagining Innovation, Scaling Enterprise (RISE) is a transformative accelerator program designed to support impact-oriented, technology-focused businesses across North America and the Caribbean. At DIASPORIC, we recognize that innovation knows no borders, and that the most powerful solutions emerge when diverse perspectives converge.

The RISE program is committed to providing entrepreneurs from historically disadvantaged communities, with particular emphasis on the African diaspora and Caribbean connections, access to capital and investor-readiness training. We bridge the gap between founders and industry leaders, creating pathways that have historically been inaccessible to underrepresented entrepreneurs.

Our approach is rooted in the understanding that the Caribbean and its diaspora represent an untapped wellspring of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial energy. From fintech solutions addressing financial inclusion to climate-tech innovations protecting our islands, the Caribbean is poised to lead in the global technology landscape. RISE exists to unlock that potential.

By connecting North American entrepreneurs with their Caribbean counterparts, we foster cross-pollination of ideas, create new market opportunities, and build a technology ecosystem that reflects the richness and diversity of our communities. We believe that when Caribbean and diaspora innovators rise together, entire regions transform.

DIASPORIC is headquartered in Bermuda, strategically positioned at the crossroads of North America and the Caribbean. From this unique vantage point, we bridge two dynamic regions, connecting entrepreneurs with the resources, networks, and opportunities they need to scale.

THE VISION

WHY
THE 70?

The African diaspora is the largest forced migration in human history. Across the Caribbean, millions of people carry the cultures, languages, and bloodlines of 54 African nations — yet the formal connections between these two great blocs of Black sovereignty have never been fully realized.

DIASPORA70 exists to change that. We are building the infrastructure — the relationships, the partnerships, the economic pathways — to permanently link the 16 sovereign nations of the Caribbean with the 54 sovereign nations of Africa into a coherent, collaborative network: The 70.

Not as a symbolic gesture. As a functioning engine of trade, cultural exchange, policy alignment, and mutual investment that serves over 1.5 billion people across two hemispheres.

BERMUDA'S ROLE

THE BRIDGE
BETWEEN
TWO WORLDS

Bermuda sits at a unique crossroads — geographically between North America and the Caribbean, historically shaped by African diaspora communities, and economically positioned as one of the world's leading financial centres.

This makes Bermuda the natural headquarters for The 70 initiative. We are not on the periphery of this story — we are at its centre. A small island with an outsized ability to convene, finance, and legitimize the connections that the diaspora has always deserved.

DIASPORA70, founded in Hamilton, Bermuda, is the organization building this network from the ground up — starting with due diligence, trust, and genuine relationships, and scaling toward government-to-government partnerships, trade agreements, and a permanent diaspora economic institution.

"We are not reconnecting strangers. We are reconnecting family."
